Manchester City to Stay Put with Current Squad for Next Season

Manchester City is planning to stick with their current squad for the upcoming season, according to sources close to the club. Pep Guardiola is reportedly willing to begin the new campaign with the same players that secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title. This decision is contingent upon whether any player expresses a desire to leave the club and a suitable offer is received.

Player Futures in Question

Key players like Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Éderson have uncertain futures at City. Despite speculation surrounding potential departures, none of these players have communicated their intention to leave the Etihad Stadium. This has led the club to adopt a wait-and-see approach regarding their summer transfer activity.

Transfer Targets

While City is open to bringing in new additions, their primary focus is on securing moves for João Cancelo and Kalvin Phillips. Cancelo and Phillips, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona and West Ham United respectively, are seen as valuable assets for the team. The preference, however, is for permanent transfers rather than loan deals.

Another player on City’s radar is Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães. The Brazilian midfielder is being considered as a potential target if one of the current midfielders decides to depart. However, City has indicated that they do not value Guimarães at the £100 million release clause specified in his contract with Newcastle.

Newcastle, on the other hand, is keen on retaining Guimarães and any club interested in triggering his release clause must do so before the end of June. This approach was outlined by Newcastle manager Eddie Howe last month, emphasizing the need to avoid a prolonged period of speculation surrounding the player’s future.

Manchester City’s decision to maintain their existing squad for the upcoming season reflects their confidence in the current group of players. While the possibility of new signings remains on the table, Guardiola’s preference is to work with the familiar faces that have brought success to the club in recent years. Only time will tell if any last-minute developments alter the team’s transfer strategy for the summer.
