Why Rodri Believes a Spanish Player Should Win the Ballon d’Or

Rodri of Manchester City recently spoke out about the need for a Spanish men’s player to win a Ballon d’Or once again. The last time a Spaniard won this prestigious award was back in 1960 with Luis Suárez. After being named the Player of the Tournament at Euro 2024, Rodri expressed his feelings by stating, “Spanish football deserves a Ballon d’Or winner.”

Spain’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, also chimed in to support Rodri’s claim. De la Fuente boldly stated, “For me Rodri is the best player in the world, please give him the Ballon d’Or now.” This declaration comes after Rodri’s exceptional performance during Euro 2024, where he started in six out of seven games and showcased a remarkable passing accuracy of 92.84%.

Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal, another Spanish player, echoed Rodri’s sentiments by expressing his desire for a Ballon d’Or to be awarded to a fellow Spaniard. Carvajal, who won both the Champions League and LaLiga with Real Madrid, stated, “I hope a Spaniard gets it. I think Spanish football deserves it.”

Aside from advocating for Spanish players to win the Ballon d’Or, Rodri also shared his thoughts on his teammate Álvaro Morata. Despite Morata facing criticism and contemplating retirement from the national team, Rodri commended Morata’s dedication and professional attitude. He mentioned, “Morata is a superb professional. He gave it all today. It was one of his best performances in the competition.”

Rodri’s call for a Spanish player to win the Ballon d’Or reflects the pride and admiration he holds for his national team. With his outstanding performance at Euro 2024 and the support of his teammates and coach, Rodri’s hope for this accomplishment seems to be gaining momentum.
