The Injury Woes of Robert Lewandowski: A Setback for Poland

Poland’s star striker, Robert Lewandowski, will be sitting out of the country’s Euro 2024 opener against the Netherlands due to an injury sustained during a warmup game against Turkey. The Polish national team’s doctor, Jacek Jaroszewski, has confirmed that they are working hard to ensure Lewandowski’s fitness for their second Group D match against Austria on June 21st.

Lewandowski, who has notched an impressive 82 goals for his country, suffered a torn biceps femoris muscle, ruling him out of the opening match of the tournament. This setback comes as a major blow for Poland, as the Barcelona striker has been a crucial figure in their squad.

Despite the injury, coach Michał Probierz has decided to keep Lewandowski with the team in the hopes that he will be able to make a comeback in the second match against Austria. Jaroszewski’s statement emphasized that they are doing everything possible to get Lewandowski back on the field for the crucial fixture.

Unfortunately, Lewandowski was not the only player to suffer injuries during the friendly against Turkey. Paweł Dawidowicz and Karol Świderski also picked up knocks, although Jaroszewski has expressed optimism that both players should be able to return to full training in a few days.

After facing the Netherlands and Austria, Poland is set to close out their Group D campaign against World Cup runners-up France. The absence of Lewandowski will undoubtedly make their task even more challenging, as they look to navigate through a tough group in the competition.

Despite a prolific goal-scoring record for both Poland and Barcelona, Lewandowski’s season ended without any silverware. However, the striker managed to find the back of the net 26 times in 49 appearances for the LaLiga side, showcasing his enduring quality in front of goal.

The injury to Robert Lewandowski has dealt a significant blow to Poland’s Euro 2024 campaign. As the team prepares to face stiff competition in their group, the absence of their star striker will undoubtedly be felt on the field. However, with a glimmer of hope for his return in the latter stages of the tournament, Polish fans will be eagerly anticipating Lewandowski’s comeback.
