The Impending Absence of Lamine Yamal from Barcelona’s Preseason Tour

Lamine Yamal, the young prodigy who played a pivotal role in Spain’s victory at Euro 2024, is slated to miss Barcelona’s upcoming preseason tour of the United States. Following his accomplishments at the European Championship, where he not only helped set up crucial goals but also claimed the title of Young Player of the Tournament, Yamal is entitled to a well-deserved break of 21 days. This break comes as part of an agreement facilitated by the Spanish Footballers’ Association [AFE].

Barcelona’s preseason tour is set to kick off with a match against Manchester City on July 30 in Orlando, Florida. Subsequently, the Catalan side will face Real Madrid on Aug. 3 in New Jersey and then play against AC Milan on Aug. 6 in Baltimore. However, Lamine Yamal will be absent from these fixtures as he savors his time off after the grueling Euro 2024 campaign that culminated in Spain lifting the trophy for the fourth time.

Yamal’s return to the routine is marked by his expected presence on Aug. 7 for preseason training ahead of the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Monaco at the Olympic Stadium on Aug. 12. Following this, Barcelona’s La, a Liga campaign will commence on Aug. 17 with an away trip to Valencia. Yamal at only 17 years of age, had already solidified his position as a first-team regular at Barcelona, boasting an impressive 50 appearances in the previous season. However, his stature in the football world has soared even higher post his standout performances at Euro 2024.

Having played a significant portion of the previous season with a youth team registration, Lamine Yamal is slated for an official promotion to the first team for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign. This elevation will also see him don a new shirt number, with sources hinting at a high likelihood of him taking on the No. 19 jersey, mirroring his number in the Spanish national team.

In addition to Lamine Yamal, other members of Spain’s triumphant Euro 2024 squad will also be absent from Barcelona’s preseason tour of the U.S. However, the reasons for their respective absences vary. Ferran Torres, for instance, has been granted permission to miss the tour, although there remains a slim chance of him joining the team towards the conclusion of the expedition.

The absence of Lamine Yamal from Barcelona’s preseason tour serves as a testament to his pivotal role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory and underscores the need for adequate rest and recuperation following such intense campaigns. As he gears up to return to the pitch for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on the young forward as he transitions into an even more integral role within the Barcelona setup.
