Manchester United has been on the lookout for a new striker ever since the departure of Anthony Martial on a free transfer. With the need to bolster their front line, the club has drawn up a list of potential targets for the upcoming summer transfer window. Among the names that have surfaced are Ivan Toney, Jonathan David, and Joshua Zirkzee, according to sources familiar with the matter.
United face tough competition in their pursuit of a new striker, as other clubs are also vying for the signatures of these talented forwards. Benjamin Sesko, who was heavily scouted by United, has opted to sign a new contract with RB Leipzig, leaving the Red Devils to explore other options. The club’s current striker, Rasmus Højlund, has performed well in his first season at Old Trafford, but the need for more competition in that position is evident.
Joshua Zirkzee, who had a successful season with Bologna, has a release clause of £34 million in his contract, making him an attractive option for potential suitors. Meanwhile, Ivan Toney and Jonathan David are nearing the end of their contracts at Brentford and Lille, respectively. Brentford is reportedly demanding more than £50 million for Toney, who is also a part of England’s squad for Euro 2024. David, a 24-year-old Canada international, scored an impressive 26 goals for Lille last season, including 19 in Ligue 1.
It is worth noting that much of United’s interest in certain players, such as Brian Brobbey, has been influenced by the potential appointment of a new manager. In addition to strengthening their attacking options, United are also looking to bolster their defensive line. Jarrad Branthwaite, the Everton defender, is a top target for the Red Devils. With a valuation of around £75 million, Everton believes that Branthwaite’s price should be in line with other top defenders in the market.
