Manchester United Closing in on Bologna Striker Zirkzee Deal

Manchester United is reportedly on the verge of finalizing a deal with Bologna striker, Joshua Zirkzee. The club has successfully navigated past the challenges posed by the player’s representatives and are now focusing on reaching an agreement with Bologna. Despite Zirkzee’s hefty release clause of £34 million ($43.5m) which is valid until August, United is looking to negotiate a more favorable deal.

Zirkzee has emerged as Manchester United’s top-choice striker target, overtaking other options such as Lille’s Jonathan David and Brentford’s Ivan Toney. The 23-year-old’s impressive performance, scoring 12 goals for Bologna last season, has caught the attention of top European clubs. With interest from AC Milan as well, United is in a race to secure his signature.

Furthermore, Manchester United is also in talks with Bayern Munich regarding Zirkzee’s international teammate, Matthijs de Ligt. The German club is open to negotiations for the defender, valuing him at more than £40m. This potential deal adds to United’s ambitious transfer targets for the summer window.

With the arrival of sporting director Dan Ashworth, United’s recruitment strategy has seen a shift towards prioritizing key positions. Securing a striker, a center-back, and a central midfielder are at the top of the club’s agenda, aiming to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.

Amidst the transfer discussions, midfielder Donny van de Beek is set to make a permanent move to Girona in a deal worth around £420,000. The former Ajax player, signed by Manchester United in a £40m deal in 2020, is looking for a fresh start after a loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt.

As the summer progresses, Manchester United is gearing up for preseason training, with players who were not involved in the Euros or Copa América expected to return to Carrington. The club is looking to hit the ground running under the guidance of newly appointed backroom staff members including Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake.
