Manchester City’s Transfer Stand on Ederson

Manchester City’s Transfer Stand on Ederson

It has been reported that Manchester City is only willing to consider offers for goalkeeper Ederson that exceed a whopping £40 million. This revelation comes from a source close to the situation, as reported by ESPN. Despite the interest from teams like Al Ittihad, City is standing firm on their valuation of the player. Ederson has been a pivotal player for City for seven seasons now and still has two years left on his contract.

Both Al Ittihad and Al Nassr have shown interest in acquiring Ederson’s services. However, their valuations have fallen short of Manchester City’s asking price. Al Nassr, in particular, recently signed another goalkeeper, Bento from Athletico Paranaense for a long-term deal. It seems that Ederson’s potential move to Saudi Arabia is very likely, thanks to offers that would triple his current salary and make him the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world.

City’s Contingency Plan

Despite the speculation surrounding Ederson’s potential departure, Manchester City remains calm about the situation. Manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly confident in backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who recently signed a contract extension until 2026. Ortega has already showcased his talents in various competitions, including a memorable performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Interestingly, both Ederson and Ortega have been included in City’s squad for their upcoming U.S. tour. Alongside star players like Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish, the team seems well-prepared for the upcoming season. City has also included Kalvin Phillips, who spent the last season on loan at West Ham, in the squad. However, the club is open to his departure if a suitable offer of around £20 million is received.

De Bruyne’s Status

In other news, Manchester City expects Kevin De Bruyne to remain at the club for the upcoming season. Despite rumors linking him to Al Ittihad, the Belgian midfielder is currently on holiday after his participation in Euro 2024. Although a move to Saudi Arabia has not been ruled out in the future, it seems unlikely that De Bruyne will depart this summer. With only a year left on his contract, his future at the Etihad Stadium remains uncertain.
