Manchester City has officially announced the signing of 20-year-old Brazilian winger, Sávio, on a five-year deal. The club finalized the deal on Thursday, with sources revealing that City paid an initial transfer fee of €25 million ($27.3m), along with a potential €15m ($16.4m) in add-ons. Sávio will be joining City from French side Troyes, where he had loan spells at PSV Eindhoven and Girona. Interestingly, both Troyes and Girona are part of the City Football Group (CFG), which is overseen by Manchester City.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Sávio stated, “I’m so happy to be joining Manchester City, the Premier League champions and Club World Cup winners. Everyone knows they are the best team in the world right now, so to be here is very exciting for me.” The young winger also mentioned his eagerness to work under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, whom he regards as one of the greatest coaches of all time. Sávio had a successful stint in Spain and is now looking forward to the challenge of competing in the Premier League alongside some of the top talents in the world.
Sávio’s impressive performance last season saw him score 11 goals in 41 appearances for Girona, helping them secure qualification for the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history. The Brazilian winger also represented his national team in this year’s Copa América, scoring a goal and featuring in all four matches before Brazil was eliminated by Uruguay in the quarterfinals. With such a solid track record, Sávio is poised to make a significant impact at Manchester City and contribute to the team’s ongoing success.
Looking ahead, Sávio expressed his anticipation for the upcoming season, stating, “I can’t wait to meet the fans and my new teammates and hopefully be a part of bringing more success to City.” As he embarks on this new chapter in his career, the young winger is prepared to face the challenges of playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world. With his skills, determination, and the support of his new club, Sávio is set to make waves in the Premier League and continue his upward trajectory in professional football.
