Charlotte FC in Talks with Tim Ream for MLS Move

Charlotte FC, a Major League Soccer team, is currently in advanced negotiations with Fulham and United States defender Tim Ream, as per sources close to the situation. While a deal has not been finalized yet, discussions are ongoing to potentially bring the 36-year-old player to the United States. Ream’s contract with Fulham runs until 2025, which means Charlotte FC would need to pay an undisclosed transfer fee to secure his services.

Tim Ream initially joined Fulham in 2015 after his stint with Bolton Wanderers. During his time with the English club, he has made 312 appearances and established himself as a key player. However, the 2023-24 season saw Ream facing challenges, as a calf injury in December limited his playing time, resulting in only one goal in 18 matches across various competitions. Despite this setback, Ream has remained an integral part of the United States Men’s National Team, earning 56 caps and starting in all four games of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

As preparations for the 2024 Copa América get underway, Tim Ream has been called up for the USMNT training camp in May. With friendly matches against Colombia and Brazil scheduled for June, Ream will have the opportunity to showcase his skills on the international stage once again. Charlotte FC is eyeing him to play a crucial role in their defense, particularly as a left-footed center-back, a position that their head coach, Dean Smith, has been vocal about needing to strengthen.

Currently, Charlotte FC is positioned fifth in the Eastern Conference standings, having accumulated 25 points from 17 games. With a goal difference of zero and 18 goals conceded so far, the team is looking to bolster their defensive lineup with the potential addition of Tim Ream. His experience and versatility could provide a significant boost to the squad as they aim to make a push for a higher position in the table.

Tim Ream’s potential move to Charlotte FC could signal a new chapter in his career, transitioning from European football to the MLS. While negotiations are still ongoing, the prospect of him joining the team presents an exciting opportunity for both the player and the club. Charlotte FC’s pursuit of Ream reflects their ambition to strengthen their roster and compete at a higher level in the league.
