Atlético Madrid Targeting Defensive Reinforcements in Summer Transfer Window

Atletico Madrid are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Real Sociedad defender Robin Le Normand for a fee of around €30 million. The sources have told ESPN that the French-born 27-year-old, who is currently representing Spain at Euro 2024, has agreed to join Atletico this summer. Le Normand has been a key player for Real Sociedad, making 47 appearances across all competitions last season, including seven in the Champions League.

In addition to Le Normand, Atletico are also in talks to sign Feyenoord center-back Dávid Hancko. Sources have informed ESPN that negotiations are still ongoing, with Atletico making a €20 million offer to Feyenoord. However, the Dutch club is holding out for a fee above €30 million. Atletico are hopeful of reaching an agreement but are considering alternative options if a deal cannot be struck.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has identified the need to strengthen and rejuvenate his team’s defensive line in the upcoming transfer window. The team conceded 43 goals in 38 LaLiga games last season, prompting Simeone to prioritize defensive reinforcements. With veterans like Stefan Savic leaving and Mario Hermoso declining a contract extension, Atletico are in dire need of defensive signings to bolster their squad.

Meanwhile, negotiations between Atletico and Real Sociedad have been smooth, with discussions ongoing for Atletico defender Javi Galán to extend his loan spell at the San Sebastián-based club. Galán spent the latter half of last season on loan at Real Sociedad and could potentially stay longer if an agreement is reached between the two clubs. This move would provide Atletico with added defensive depth for the upcoming season.

Atletico Madrid’s pursuit of defensive reinforcements in the summer transfer window is well underway. With negotiations for both Robin Le Normand and Dávid Hancko ongoing, Atletico are looking to solidify their defensive line ahead of the new season. Manager Diego Simeone’s push for defensive improvements highlights the importance of shoring up the team’s backline to compete at the highest level. As the transfer window progresses, Atletico will continue to explore options to bolster their squad and address key areas of need.
