Real Madrid To Receive LaLiga Trophy in Private Ceremony

Real Madrid will be receiving the LaLiga trophy in a private ceremony at the club’s Valdebebas training ground this coming Sunday. Sources have confirmed that this ceremony will be taking place behind closed doors. The Spanish football federation, responsible for the league trophy, initially intended to hand over the trophy at Madrid’s next game, which was scheduled to be away at Granada’s Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium on Saturday.

However, Madrid was hesitant about having the ceremony take place away from home, especially after a game that could potentially seal the relegation of Granada from the first division mathematically. Due to this, Madrid rejected the proposal to have the trophy presentation at Granada’s stadium. Instead, sources have mentioned that the trophy will be presented by RFEF president Pedro Rocha to Madrid’s players, staff, and president Florentino Pérez in a private event at Real Madrid City on the morning of May 12th.

Following the private ceremony, the team is anticipated to present the trophy to their fans and the local authorities of the city. Despite this, the details regarding the celebrations are yet to be officially announced. According to Ancelotti, “On Saturday we were happy to have won the league… Now the league is put to one side. On Thursday we’ll think about celebrating.”

Real Madrid secured the LaLiga title last weekend after defeating Cádiz 3-0. Shortly after, rivals Barcelona were beaten 4-2 at Girona, granting Madrid a significant 13-point lead at the top of the table with only four games remaining. This marks Madrid’s 36th league title, setting a Spanish record. The club has been enjoying a successful season, also being in pursuit of Champions League success. They will be facing Bayern Munich in the semifinal second leg on Wednesday, following a 2-2 draw in the first leg.

Madrid’s recent league victory marks their fourth title in the last decade and the second in three seasons under coach Carlo Ancelotti. Having won 27, drawn six, and lost just once in LaLiga this season, the team has amassed a total of 87 points after 34 games. Ancelotti expressed respect for Bayern ahead of their Champions League semifinal second leg, stating, “As clubs, they’re similar… We respect each other and that’s right, you have to respect your opponent, also because they did well, better than us, in the first leg.” Despite this respect, Ancelotti emphasized that the team is not being overly optimistic but rather very excited about the upcoming match.
