The children of the late Argentine soccer star, Diego Maradona, have recently made a significant request to the court in Argentina. They are seeking permission to transfer their father’s body from the private cemetery where he is currently buried to a newly constructed mausoleum in Buenos Aires. This request comes from “all the heirs” of the soccer legend, who passed away in 2020.
The proposed mausoleum, known as “Memorial del Diez,” is currently under construction in the bustling neighborhood of Puerto Madero in the capital city. The children of Maradona believe that this new location will provide a much safer and accessible space for fans from around the world to pay tribute to their father. This move is intended to allow all Argentinian people and global citizens to honor the memory of the greatest Argentine idol.
Despite the heartfelt nature of this request, court approval is necessary due to an ongoing criminal case involving eight medical workers who were responsible for Maradona’s care before his untimely death. The children have assured the court that all necessary examinations have been conducted on their father’s body and have requested the transfer to be carried out with the highest levels of security and confidentiality.
Last year, on what would have been Maradona’s 63rd birthday, his children announced the construction of the memorial in his honor. This initiative was made possible through an agreement with national authorities, the city of Buenos Aires, and the Puerto Madero corporation, which generously provided the space free of charge. Maradona, who led Argentina to victory in the 1986 World Cup, is remembered not only as a talented player but also as a passionate coach who left a lasting impact on the sport.
Diego Maradona’s legacy extends far beyond his achievements on the soccer field. As a national hero and a global icon, he continues to inspire generations of fans with his skill, charisma, and dedication to the sport. The transfer of his remains to a new mausoleum in Buenos Aires is a fitting tribute to his memory and a testament to the enduring legacy of one of the greatest athletes of all time.
