Inter Miami Signs Matías Rojas to Alleviate Injury Concerns

Inter Miami has recently announced the signing of Paraguay international Matías Rojas for a one-year contract, extending through the 2024 season. The addition of the 28-year-old midfielder comes at a crucial time, as the team faces multiple injury concerns within their roster. Rojas, who was most recently with Brazilian club Corinthians, joins Inter Miami after a turbulent period where he recorded only 30 appearances due to payment disputes with the front office.

Before his time at Corinthians, Rojas played for Cerro Porteño in Paraguay from 2014 to 2018, followed by a stint with Racing Club in Argentina from 2019 to 2023. The midfielder brings a wealth of experience and skill to his new club, eagerly expressing his enthusiasm to start training and contribute to the team’s objectives. His signing as a free agent not only strengthens Inter Miami’s midfield but also allows the team to navigate Major League Soccer’s strict roster rules.

With key players like Diego Gómez sidelined due to injury, Rojas’ arrival provides much-needed versatility and depth in the midfield. Gómez’s absence, as well as that of other injured players like Jordi Alba, Leonardo Campana, and Facundo Farías, has put a strain on the team’s lineup. Inter Miami’s head coach, Gerardo “Tata” Martino, expressed relief at being able to bring in Rojas to help stabilize the team amidst the injury crisis.

Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson lauded the signing of Rojas, highlighting his skill and experience at both club and national team levels. The addition of Rojas is seen as a strategic move to bolster Inter Miami’s squad and enhance their competitiveness as they aim to challenge for titles in the remainder of the MLS season. Despite the challenges posed by multiple injuries, Inter Miami currently leads the Eastern Conference table with 18 points from 10 games.

As Matías Rojas integrates into the team and begins to make an impact on the pitch, Inter Miami fans are hopeful that his presence will provide the team with the added depth and quality needed to maintain their strong start to the season. With key players returning from injury and new signings like Rojas coming on board, the future looks promising for Inter Miami as they continue their pursuit of success in Major League Soccer.
