Chelsea Head Coach Enzo Maresca Aiming for Further Signings Despite Recent Activity

Chelsea recently completed their 10th summer signing with Pedro Neto joining the club from Wolves in a £54 million deal. However, head coach Enzo Maresca has made it clear that the club is still targeting further incomings before the end of the transfer window. Despite the flurry of new arrivals, including players like Tosin Adarabioyo and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Chelsea’s squad currently stands at a substantial 43 players. Maresca is looking to streamline the squad by moving on unwanted members such as Conor Gallagher, whose move to Atlético Madrid is currently on hold.

Chelsea have been in talks with Atlético Madrid over the possible acquisition of João Félix, while Napoli has shown interest in incorporating Victor Osimhen in a player-plus cash swap deal for Romelu Lukaku. When asked about these potential transfers, Maresca remained tight-lipped, stating, “They are not our players so it is not correct, I think, to talk about a Napoli player or an Atlético Madrid player. In this moment, the club knows exactly what I think in terms of what we need.”

With the squad bloated at 43 players, Maresca is facing the challenge of managing the surplus of talents at his disposal. Players like Gallagher and Trevor Chalobah are currently training away from the first-team squad, with potential departures looming before the transfer window closes. Maresca emphasized the importance of focusing on day-to-day training sessions rather than getting overwhelmed by the sheer number of players on the roster.

Having recently succeeded Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, Maresca revealed that he has sought advice from two former Chelsea managers, Claudio Ranieri and Carlo Ancelotti. He had conversations with both Italian managers, drawing on their experiences at Chelsea. Maresca’s interactions with Ranieri and Ancelotti provide valuable insights as he navigates his role as the head coach of Chelsea.

Chelsea’s transfer activity under Maresca’s leadership has been notable, with a focus on strategic incomings and outgoings to shape the squad for the upcoming season. As the transfer window nears its end, it remains to be seen how Chelsea will further bolster their ranks and make any final adjustments to the squad. With a clear vision and guidance from experienced figures in the football world, Maresca is poised to lead Chelsea to success in the upcoming season.
