Manchester United’s Luke Shaw has faced yet another injury setback, this time a calf injury that will keep him out of action until after the season’s first international break. This news comes as a blow to both Shaw and the team, as the full-back has not played for Erik ten Hag’s side since February. Despite starting for England in the Euro 2024 final against Spain, critics have questioned the decision to bring Shaw back too soon.
No Rush, Says ten Hag
In a recent news conference, manager Erik ten Hag made it clear that there would be no rush in bringing Luke Shaw back into the fold. While acknowledging Shaw’s importance to the team, ten Hag emphasized the need to allow the player to recover fully before returning to action. “He will return in the short term, it doesn’t take long,” ten Hag stated. “We are looking forward, of course, for Luke Shaw. He is a very important player for our team so we want to get him back as soon as possible but we can’t force this process.”
Despite Shaw’s absence, Manchester United has welcomed the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. The duo, signed from Bayern Munich, are expected to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford. Manager Erik ten Hag expressed his confidence in the squad, emphasizing that the focus should be on the available players rather than those sidelined by injuries. “Issues are there, but it’s not about those who are not available,” ten Hag explained. “Same as last season, it’s about who is available and we can put out a strong team. We will do that. [De Ligt and Mazraoui] will be in the squad, and Harry Maguire will be in the squad as well.”
While Manchester United may not be at full strength, manager Erik ten Hag remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. He stressed the need for continuous improvement and higher performance levels from both the team as a whole and individual players. “We are not 100%, but we have to go from game to game to improve and to get higher performance levels in the team and in individual players,” ten Hag said.
Luke Shaw’s recovery process will be closely monitored by the Manchester United staff, with manager Erik ten Hag taking a cautious approach to ensure Shaw’s full recovery. Despite setbacks, the team remains focused on progress and performance improvement, with new signings like Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui expected to make significant contributions. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Shaw’s return and how his presence can impact the team’s performance on the field.
