Manchester United’s Preseason Plans for Sancho and Greenwood

According to a source at ESPN, Manchester United is expecting Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood to report back to training if they have not yet left the club by the start of preseason. Players not participating in the European Championship or Copa América have been instructed to return to Carrington on July 8. This includes Sancho and Greenwood, who are currently in talks for potential new clubs.

Both Lazio, Juventus, Napoli, and Marseille have shown interest in signing Greenwood. However, if a deal is not reached before the deadline, Greenwood could find himself training at Carrington for the first time since January 2022. This was when he was suspended following an arrest on serious allegations, which were later dropped in February 2023. Greenwood bounced back with a loan spell at Getafe last season.

As for Sancho, who recently had a falling out with manager Erik ten Hag, his potential return arrangements have not yet been finalized. Despite being offered to clubs like Barcelona and Juventus, a price tag of around £40 million ($51m) has proven to be a hurdle for interested parties. United is hoping for permanent departures for both Sancho and Greenwood, although loan deals have not been ruled out.

In addition to player movements, Manchester United is also undergoing changes in its coaching staff. Talks are underway with Go Ahead Eagles manager Rene Hake, who is likely to join the backroom team at Old Trafford. This restructuring is expected to include the appointment of former United striker and ex-PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. The future of current assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren remains uncertain, while forwards coach Benni McCarthy is set to depart as his contract expires soon.

Manchester United’s preparations for the upcoming season are in full swing, with a focus on player transfers and staff adjustments. As the club aims to rebuild and strengthen its squad, both on and off the pitch, all eyes will be on how these changes will impact the team’s performance in the upcoming campaign.
